Something is in the air
In the winery at Bonnievale, the grapes are in. Now the alchemy of transformation begins. Juice morphs into wine, guided by the winemaker; and, settles into rest or a gentle dance with oak.
We too join the flow of the season, perhaps lingering to the very last golden afternoon before retiring inside to rekindle the little joys of cosiness, of muted lighting and crackling fires.
Some talk of hibernation, but it is a time of re-connection and re-discovery as we deploy our many loves in beloved old ways, for example, the sturdy Bonnievale Cabernet Sauvignon with hearty stew or 2021 Limited Release Chardonnay – recent winner of a Double Gold medal from Gilbert & Gaillard – with a wholesome pasta. There are new ways too: a flavoursome Bonnievale white wine with say, curry; and, a Bonnievale red with chocolate.
Chocolate is, however, the start of it all with Easter at the seasonal watershed. That’s the reason for our tasting room’s upcoming special offer. The kiddies get to hunt for chocolate eggs. There will be hot-cross buns and hot chocolate too.
Grown-ups get to take their chocolate with a little Bonnievale vino. The chocolate-and-wine pairing is R60pp.
But there’s more:
- Taste any five wines for R50pp;
- Try two bubblies with one cupcake, for R40pp;
- Sample marshmallows and wine, for R65pp; and
- Order a cheese platter for two at R110.
Over the long weekend of 15 to 18 April, the Bonnievale wine tasting room is open on the Saturday and Monday from 10:00 to 13:00. The Easter egg hunt takes place on Saturday, 11:00 to 12:00.
Now’s the time to embrace the change.
